I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! I am especially thankful I get to teach your children, it fills my heart with joy every day!

Poetry: We will being poetry recitations for "Thanksgiving Day" on Thursday, 11/29. Each students will recite two stanzas. 
Spalding: This week we have 30 words Spelling Test on Friday!

Writing: Our copy work and narration exercises will be about the days of the week.

Math: This week is all about measurement! Monday will be spent comparing and measuring the length of objects using various units of measurements. On Tuesday and Thursday will be spent comparing and measuring weight. 

Literature:  We will finish reading Frog and Toad Together this week. Students will also create their own Frog and Toad story.  Please send in your child’s copy of Frog and Toad All Year as we will begin reading it the following week. 

History:  This week we will have our world religions review on Wednesday and test Friday. There will be a study guide sent home Wednesday night.
Science: We will begin our unit about matter by learning about solids, liquids, and gasses. Students will learn that matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. Solids have a definite volume and shape, they are freestanding and self contained. Liquids have a definite volume but not a definite shape, they take on the shape of their containers. Gasses have neither a definite volume nor shape, the take on both the volume and shape of their containers.

Good Morning 1C Families!

It was such a joy watching your children perform on Wednesday night.  Their hard work was evident and they did a wonderful job!

We are looking forward to our Egypt celebration on Tuesday and the short week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  There are still a few items to be donated and volunteer spots available if you would like to participate in our celebration.

*While the goal will be to memorize the whole poem, scholars will only be assessed on two stanzas

Spalding: There will not be a spelling test this week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Instead, please practice the phonograms. We will review all of the phonograms on Monday and take a graded WPR (written phonogram review) on Tuesday in class. 

*Please note that we will not send home the red book bags this week due to the holiday

Writing: Copy work and narration exercises from The Trumpet of the Swan

Science: There will be no Science this week due to our Egypt party on Tuesday, 11/20.

Math: We will finish ch.7 with a test on Monday and a cumulative test on Tuesday

Literature: We will read chapter 4 from Frog and Toad together.

History:  On Monday, we will continue to learn about Islam. On Tuesday, we will enjoy our Egypt celebration!

Winter Concert: Our Winter Concert is quickly approaching! It will be at Higley Center for the Performing Arts on November 14^th.  Students’ attire for our performances is NOT school uniform. Gentlemen are expected to wear a plain white collard shirt, black pants, black socks and black closed toed shoes. Solid dark colored vests and ties are optional for gentlemen. Ladies are expected to wear a white top, black skirt, black tights and black closed toed shoes. Please have your first graders at Higley Center for the Performing Arts by 5:00pm.

Grammar:
We will observe a classical painting named "The Gleaners" and identify people, places, things (nouns), and actions (verbs) that can be found in the painting. We will use these nouns and verbs to create sentences about the painting. Writing: Writing: Our copy work and narration exercises will be about Sacagawea and Davy Crocket.

Math: We will continue to practice and develop strategies to subtract within twenty. We will complete this unit with a cumulative test on Thursday and a chapter test on Friday.  Please review the test B with your child to help support and misunderstandings of the concept they may have. 

Literature: We will finish reading Frog and Toad are Friends and we will begin reading the second book in the series Frog and Toad Together on Friday. Please ensure that your child brings their copy to school.  

History:  This week we will be learning about the religion of Islam. We will go over the story of Mohammed. On Friday we will review Judaism, Christianity, and Islam to see what they have incommon and how they are different. 
Science: This week we will learn about the many different characteristics and adaptations of ocean fish. For example, students will learn about how fish can breathe, eat, and camouflage as well as how they may participate in symbiotic or poisonous relationships with other sea creatures.

Week 13

Greetings 1C families,

We had a wonderful time celebrating Readathon last Wednesday.  It was so fun to see the students dressed up in their costumes!  After the grand opening of our school's library, we enjoyed an afternoon of stories and crafts! Thank you to all of the parents who helped make the day so special! 

Now that a new month is upon us, we will focus on the virtue of courage and the strategy participate as we continue to work together as a team to seek the truth, beauty and goodness of our learning!

Grammar: We will review all we have learned about action verbs, common, and proper nouns in preparation for a grammar assessment on Friday. Nouns can be people, places, things, or sometimes, ideas. Proper nouns tell about a specific person or place with a name and have a capital letter. Common nouns can refer to any type of person or place. Action verbs are always something that you do like stand, sit, or smile. 
Writing: We will read and write about sections of Charlotte's Web. Students will answer questions about the story in complete sentences both orally and in their writing notebooks. 

Math: We will continue to practice and develop strategies to subtract within twenty. We will complete this unit with a cumulative test on Thursday and a chapter test on Friday.  Please review the test B with your child to help support and misunderstandings of the concept they may have.
