Week 16

Greetings 1C Families!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! I am especially thankful I get to teach your children, it fills my heart with joy every day!

Homework
Nightly: Read for 15 minutes, practice poem (1 minute), practice rocket math (1 minute)

Academics

Poetry: We will being poetry recitations for "Thanksgiving Day" on Thursday, 11/29. Each students will recite two stanzas. 
Spalding: This week we have 30 words Spelling Test on Friday!

Tuesday: fire, wire, tire, age, gold, read (the class will read a book together), read (the class read a book together), red, fine, cannot 
Wednesday: May, may, line, left, ship, train, saw, pay, large, near, down
Writing: Our copy work and narration exercises will be about the days of the week.

Math: This week is all about measurement! Monday will be spent comparing and measuring the length of objects using various units of measurements. On Tuesday and Thursday will be spent comparing and measuring weight. 
Literature:  We will finish reading Frog and Toad Together this week. Students will also create their own Frog and Toad story.  Please send in your child’s copy of Frog and Toad All Year as we will begin reading it the following week. 
History:  This week we will have our world religions review on Wednesday and test Friday. There will be a study guide sent home Wednesday night.
Science: We will begin our unit about matter by learning about solids, liquids, and gasses. Students will learn that matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. Solids have a definite volume and shape, they are freestanding and self contained. Liquids have a definite volume but not a definite shape, they take on the shape of their containers. Gasses have neither a definite volume nor shape, the take on both the volume and shape of their containers.
