Week 31

Good Afternoon 1C Families,

March has flown by and with a new month comes a new virtue! Integrity means to choose what is right and to know the difference between right and wrong.  We will be looking for ways to practice this virtue in and out of the classroom!

Sign-up to volunteer at the book fair here!

Greetings families,

Due to various scheduling conflicts,  all P.E. classes will take place outside for the next several weeks. As the temperatures heat up, please send a water bottle to school with your child/ren.  We will be sure to give students water breaks during P.E. If your child requires sunscreen, please apply it before school starts. Students may also wear a hat (free of pop-culture) during P.E. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions. Hello Archway Arete Family! Fine Arts and French Night is Wednesday, April 10^th  from 5:30 to 7:30. Please bring your friends and family for a night of celebrating our student’s achievements in Art and French! Art will be displayed on the walls by classrooms, French videos and performances will take place in the MPR, and there will be mini art lessons in the art room. Light refreshments will be served on the playground courtyard by our lovely PSO. Excited to see you there!

Academics

Writing: Copy work and narration exercises will be from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

Grammar: We will begin learning about the articles: "the", "a", and, "an". Students will learn how to use, identify, and differentiate between these articles in a sentence. 

Math: We will discover fractions this week as we separate objects into fourths and halves. Fractions are so fun to practice at home with food and objects!

Literature:  We will begin reading various folktales from around the world! We are also using “5 finger retell” to help us tell about what we have read. Our fingers help us remember setting, characters, problem, events (beginning, middle and end) and the solution.  Please use this strategy to retell nightly reading and for your child to share about the folktales they have read in class. Additionally, please send if your child’s copy of My Father’s Dragon.

History: We will continue to study the colonist’s journey to the American Revolution. We will learn about how the colonies united and Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride! We will also learn about the battle at Lexington and Concord and the Declaration of Independence.

Science: This week we will be studying stars and their size, age, and color. We will look closely at constellations and even make some of our own! We will also be learning the phases of the moon. Look out for a phases of the moon song for extra fun at home practice.
