Greetings 1C families!

I hope you all enjoyed the three day weekend, It was so much fun seeing you all at the fall festival on Saturday!

It's finally here; the winter concert!  1C is looking forward to sharing all of the songs they have been working so hard on.  Please see the announcement below regarding specific details.

Announcements
Winter Concert: Our Winter Concert is quickly approaching! It will be at Higley Center for the Performing Arts on November 14th.  Students’ attire for our performances is NOT school uniform. Gentlemen are expected to wear a plain white collard shirt, black pants, black socks and black closed toed shoes. Solid dark colored vests and ties are optional for gentlemen. Ladies are expected to wear a white top, black skirt, black tights and black closed toed shoes. Please have your first graders at Higley Center for the Performing Arts by 5:00pm.

Poem: Thanksgiving Day by Lydia Maria Child   Idiom: Never Leave Till Tomorrow What You Can Do Today
*While the goal will be to memorize the whole poem, scholars will only be assessed on two stanzas

Wednesday: inside, blue, post, town, stay, grand, outside, dark, band, game (will be learned in class and tested on but not for homework on Wednesday night) 
Grammar:
We will observe a classical painting named "The Gleaners" and identify people, places, things (nouns), and actions (verbs) that can be found in the painting. We will use these nouns and verbs to create sentences about the painting. 
Writing: Writing: Our copy work and narration exercises will be about Sacagawea and Davy Crocket.

Math: We will continue to practice and develop strategies to subtract within twenty. We will complete this unit with a cumulative test on Thursday and a chapter test on Friday.  Please review the test B with your child to help support and misunderstandings of the concept they may have. 
Literature: We will finish reading Frog and Toad are Friends and we will begin reading the second book in the series Frog and Toad Together on Friday. Please ensure that your child brings their copy to school.  
History:  This week we will be learning about the religion of Islam. We will go over the story of Mohammed. On Friday we will review Judaism, Christianity, and Islam to see what they have incommon and how they are different. 
Science: This week we will learn about the many different characteristics and adaptations of ocean fish. For example, students will learn about how fish can breathe, eat, and camouflage as well as how they may participate in symbiotic or poisonous relationships with other sea creatures.
