Week 27


Good morning, 

Blow are some pictures of our Great Hearts Day celebration on February 14th. What a fun day it was, thank you to our wonderful room moms for putting it all together for us! Please see the announcement section of the blog regarding our field trip coming up on March 8th.

Announcements
First Grade will be taking a field trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens on Friday, March 8th! We will travel by charter bus and depart Archway Arete at 8:15am and return to the school approximately at 1:00pm. On the day of the field trip, please have your child bring a completely disposable sack lunch, and a disposable water bottle. Please contact me regarding any specific dietary or medical needs. Chaperone sign-up will be available on this blog on Wednesday, February 27th at noon. Chaperone spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. There will be 4 spots. 

Calendar
February 28th and March 1st: Poetry recitation

March 8th: First grade field trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens. Please sign and return your child’s permission slip by March, 4th

Monday, March 11- Monday, March 18th: Spring Break 

Tuesday, March 19th: School Resumes



Homework

Nightly: Read for 15 minutes, practice poem (1 minute), practice rocket math (1 minute) Phonograms to practiceoa, oe, ar, ch, ee, ow, ou, ea, o, e

Monday: date, road, rode, ride, March, march, next, indeed, four, herself and WB pg. 63-65
Tuesday: power, wish, because, cause, world, country, meet, meat, another and WB pg. 74-76

Wednesday: tripped, trip, list, people, ever, held, church, once, one, own and WB pg. 77-79

Thursday: Review all words 30 words and test B

Friday: Read a book of choice for 15 minutes 

 

Academics

Poem: The Swing by Robert Louis Stevenson; recitation this week!  Idiom: An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Spalding: This week we will have 29 words Spelling Test on Friday!

Writing: Copy work and narration exercises will be from The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams Bianco and How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell

Grammar: We will have an adjectives assessment on Tuesday. We will recite our poems on Wednesday.
Math: We’re ready for multiplication as we practice adding repeated groups!

Literature:  We will read our first piece of historical fiction as we venture back to the revolutionary war and read “Sam the Minuteman”.

History: This week we will learn about England’s reason for exploration. We will also learn about the Lost Colony, Jamestown and the Pilgrims journey to the New World.

Science: This week we will study the lives and careers of Edward Jenner and Louis Pasteur. We will discuss the experiments and discoveries that they provided to the world as scientists.
