Week 8

Greetings 1C families,

We loved having our grandparents in class on Friday! Our time together was spent attending an assembly and doing a fun activity with our grandparents. Thank you to all of the grandparents who joined us for this special day. 

I hope you have a great week and enjoy the beginning of fall!

Writing/Grammar: This week we will begin learning about verbs! Students will learn that a verb is a word that does an action or shows a state of being. This means that a verb tells something that we do or describes what we are.

Spalding: 
Please see below the spelling words for this week. We will only have 20 words this week as we have no school on Friday. We will review on Wednesday and test on Thursday. Please practice saying the phonograms each night.

Math: This week we will continue to explore subtraction.  We will solve subtraction number stories, number bonds and find the related addition sentences.  We will continue to use manipulatives to show our subtraction stories.

Literature: The students are enjoying getting to know Owl as we read Owl at Home. We will read chapters 3 and 4 entitled “Tear Water Tea” and “Upstairs Downstairs”. Please ask your child what happens in each of these chapters!

History:  
This week in history we are finishing up our Mesopotamia unit. Monday will be a class review day and Wednesday, September 26th will be the Mesopotamia assessment. A review sheet will be sent home on Monday, September 24th


Science: We will discuss how to care for the habitats that we have learned about by reading a story about "Freddie the Fish" and how his home was destroyed by pollution and poor care for our environment. We will also read a scientist biography about Rachel Carson and learn about how she helped to lessen habitat destruction.
